  • Case Study: Hot Ones x Panda Express Exclusive Event

    Challenge

    Panda Express sought to create buzz around the launch of their spiciest menu item to date, Blazing Bourbon Chicken, in collaboration with the iconic show Hot Ones. After a successful regional test in late 2023, they planned a nationwide release, aiming to engage fans of both brands through immersive, experiential events. The challenge was to execute an event that would drive excitement, align with Hot Ones’ cult following, and demonstrate Panda Express’ commitment to bold flavors.

    Solution

    Barnastics provided full event production services for the exclusive launch event in New York City, which drew influencers curated by Buzzfeed.

    Key elements of the event included:

    Event Production: We recreated the Hot Ones set for photo opportunities, ensuring guests could step into the world of the show and snap memorable pictures. This included detailed set design, AV setup, and custom pipe & drape to match the aesthetic.

    AV & Sound: Barnastics handled the audio-visual elements, including setting up speakers, mics, and the perfect lighting to create an engaging atmosphere for the event. The sound system was essential to amplifying the excitement of the night, allowing for music and speeches to flow effortlessly.

    Bar Production: We curated and served a signature honey bourbon cocktail, aligning with the bourbon sauce of the Panda Express dish and the heat of the Hot Ones brand. This cocktail became a focal point of the night, offering guests a creative and delicious drink option that tied into the event’s theme.

    Photo Booth Activation: A branded photo booth was set up to give influencers and guests an interactive way to engage with the event and share their experiences on social media. Each photo booth print featured branding from both Panda Express and Hot Ones, ensuring every image shared online would further promote the collaboration.

    Security & Staff: We provided security to manage the exclusive guest list curated by Buzzfeed, ensuring the safety and exclusivity of the event. Our dedicated staff ensured everything ran smoothly, from managing event flow to assisting with food service and guest needs.

    Results

    The Blazing Bourbon Chicken proved to be a huge success during its market test in 50 locations, which led to a nationwide release in September 2024​(QSR Magazine)​(Dexerto). The NYC event generated significant social media buzz, with influencers sharing the unique experience with their followers on TikTok and Instagram​(UPROXX).

    Panda Express’ partnership with Hot Ones built on the massive following of the show, further solidifying the brand’s reputation for delivering bold and exciting flavors. The product’s successful market test and the subsequent national rollout underscore the power of experiential marketing in driving product engagement. Although exact sales numbers haven't been disclosed, the rapid expansion from a limited release to nationwide availability is a clear indicator of the collaboration's commercial success​(BrandEat).

    Solution

    Barnastics collaborated with Complex to enhance the Verizon concert series, ensuring that each of the six iconic venues—Cine Dept in Los Angeles, Boston Center for the Arts in Boston, Essanay Studio & Lighting in Chicago, La Otra in Miami, Rittenhouse in Philly, and Lavan in NYC—delivered a premium, cohesive event experience.
